When it comes to rhinoplasty one thing is certain—there is no one nose that fits everyone. The goal I pursue for my Los Angeles rhinoplasty patients is to create facial balance, including a nose that blends well with other features. This is especially important in working with patients with ethnic characteristics. It’s critical to proceed with sensitivity, developing a surgical plan to refine the nose without making the patient look like he or she belongs in a different family.
Each ethnicity requires unique considerations when creating a surgical plan.
Asian Rhinoplasty
Asian patients are predisposed to a number of unique nasal features, including a nose that sits deep in the face, wide nostrils, and a broad, flat nasal bridge. The goal of Asian rhinoplasty is not to give the patient a characteristically Caucasian nose but rather a characteristically Asian nose that fits the face well for a more attractive appearance.
Filipino Rhinoplasty
Filipino rhinoplasty typically addresses a low bridge and wide nostrils, aiming for refinement without Westernization.
Middle Eastern Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty for women and men of Middle Eastern heritage typically addresses unique traits including:
Nasal hump
Bulbous tip
Long, droopy nose
Thick skin
Hispanic Rhinoplasty
Anatomical considerations for a Latino nose job include thick skin, wide nostrils, and bulbous tips.
African American Rhinoplasty
Performing rhinoplasty on African American patients requires techniques that account for thick nasal skin and cartilage. In many cases, patients want to address a flat nasal bridge or wide nostrils.
I often perform revision rhinoplasty for ethnic patients as well as primary rhinoplasty surgery. To learn more about your options, request a consultation online. You may also call our office at

Dr. Stoker Explains Ethnic Rhinoplasty
For my patients from ethnic backgrounds, nose surgery may involve building the bridge of the nose up higher and sharper or reducing a prominent hump or bump. Other patients may ask to have the tip of the nose tapered for a more refined look. Narrowing the nostril bases is also common in this group. Whatever the individual patient may need, I take great care to avoid the look of an unnatural, obvious “nose job” for my Los Angeles patients.
A nonsurgical approach, called liquid rhinoplasty, is also an option for patients seeking to change a specific aspect of their nose. This technique involves the strategic injection of dermal fillers and can create results that last a year or more.
Educated at some of the most elite institutions in the country, Dr. David Stoker uses his highly advanced knowledge to ensure that each patient achieves beautiful, harmonious results — whether it's through a simple non-surgical procedure or a more advanced surgical transformation. The nose is central to a person’s overall appearance—that’s why hundreds of thousands of men, women and young people have chosen rhinoplasty over the past several decades. If you’re unsatisfied with your nose, you’re probably a candidate for rhinoplasty. My Los Angeles nose surgery patients range from the age of about 16 to 75 years of age.
For some people, insurance may cover part of the procedure. If you have breathing problems, this could be a possibility. Insurance companies are careful to cover only functionally necessary procedures as part of the operation.
Recovery
Recovery from nose surgery offers both immediate gratification and improvement over time. My patients see results when the splints and bandages are removed—4 to 6 days post-op. This is when many return to work and other activities. The final outcome reveals itself several months to a year following surgery.
Risks
Risks associated with rhinoplasty can include bleeding, infection, asymmetry and a few others. These potential complications are unusual in my experience, and each one is treatable.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty FAQ
Is ethnic rhinoplasty more expensive?
Ethnic rhinoplasty doesn’t necessarily cost more than traditional rhinoplasty. As with all elective surgeries, the plastic surgeon’s expertise and reputation, as well as the time needed to complete the procedure, influence the cost.
How long does ethnic rhinoplasty last?
Ethnic rhinoplasty surgery typically lasts 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure and whether it’s a primary or revision nose job.
What’s the difference between rhinoplasty and ethnic rhinoplasty?
Both rhinoplasty and ethnic rhinoplasty change the shape or size of the nose to enhance facial harmony. During ethnic rhinoplasty, surgeons consider unique anatomical considerations to accomplish the patient’s goals.
Is ethnic rhinoplasty worth it?
If you’re like most rhinoplasty patients who are self-conscious about the appearance of their noses, ethnic rhinoplasty is an excellent investment with results that last for a lifetime.
