There are multiple variations of the Mommy Makeover, of course, and I individualize the plan for each patient depending on their needs. Many women will not need or desire all of these procedures. Each patient determines what her personal Mommy Makeover will involve after we discuss her concerns and options in a thorough consultation.
Combined Surgical Procedures
A Mommy Makeover may be performed in one or more stages. Age, health, needs and desires are all considered carefully when I formulate a plan for each patient. The majority of my patients choose to do more than one procedure at a time. I’ve had a great deal of experience performing these combined surgeries over the past decade. I’ve also done extensive clinical research on combined surgery, and have shared my findings with my colleagues through journal articles, presentations, and courses at plastic surgery meetings.
Tummy Tuck
The abdomen tends to experience the greatest change following pregnancy with stretch marks, loose skin and lower abdominal fat being the most common complaints. The abdominal muscles may also be stretched to the point that they remain separated in the midline, accentuating the patient’s lower abdominal bulge. To treat these problems, I perform a tummy tuck where I remove the excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tighten the muscles.
Liposuction
After having children, fat tends to redistribute to new areas on the body where it may be unwanted. This is frequently true even if women are successful at losing their baby weight. Most often, bulges of fat accumulate around the waist and on the thighs. On these areas, I frequently perform liposuction as part of a Mommy Makeover. My preferred technique is power-assisted liposuction, the safest and most effective way to remove fat from these areas.

The breasts go through dramatic changes with pregnancy and breastfeeding. Patient concerns about their breasts vary greatly, but the most common breast procedures I perform as part of a Mommy Makeover include:
Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation and lift
Breast lift
Breast reduction
Labiaplasty
Childbirth can change the look and feel of the female genitalia, affecting how a woman perceives herself and her sexuality. Labiaplasty is a procedure that improves the labia minora or clitoral hood, removing excess tissue while preserving — and potentially enhancing — sensation. I use meticulous techniques to ensure a completely natural-looking result that helps you improve your confidence and sexual satisfaction.
How Long Does It Take To Recover From a Mommy Makeover?
Mommy makeover patients are usually ready to return to work and normal non-strenuous activities in 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the procedures they had and individual factors. More vigorous exercise can usually be gradually resumed after 6 weeks.
Your Mommy Makeover Recovery Timeline
While the precise timeline of your own recuperation will vary depending on the procedures you choose, the following are good guidelines to help you plan your Mommy Makeover.
The day of surgery: After your Mommy Makeover, you'll likely feel quite tired and sore for the remainder of the day. Be sure you have your prescriptions filled ahead of time, so you can head home immediately after your surgery and begin the healing process. Remember to rest on your back to allow your incisions to heal undisturbed. You may use cold compresses on your incisions, but do not apply ice directly to your skin. If you have surgical drains in place, a member of my staff will instruct you on how to care for them before you leave the clinic.
1 week after surgery: In most cases, I am able to remove the drains (if necessary) within a few days, and the sutures by the one week mark. By this time, you will be much more mobile and may even be able to discontinue your opioid pain medications. Depending on your occupation, you may be ready to go back to work. During your 1-week follow-up appointment, I evaluate your healing process, and we discuss whether you feel ready to get back to the office. Even though you can resume many of your usual activities by the 1-week mark, it's still important to avoid vigorous activities.
2 weeks after surgery: Nearly all my Mommy Makeover patients are back to work by the 2-week point. It's also safe to begin light activity, like an easy walk around the neighborhood. Once you've completely stopped using prescription pain medicine, you can begin driving, too. Depending on what procedures you had, you may need to wear a compression garment. This snug garment is concealed beneath your regular clothes and supports your body while it heals.
6 weeks after surgery: Back to the gym! With few exceptions, this is the point when most Mommy Makeover patients can completely resume their original activities. This includes vigorous, high-impact exercise and swimming. By now, swelling should be nearly—if not completely—resolved, and you'll be able to fully appreciate the results of your Mommy Makeover. If you had breast enhancement as part of your surgery, you can also begin wearing underwire bras at 6 weeks. We may schedule a follow-up with you at this point to gauge your satisfaction with your surgery and discuss any lingering concerns.
Mommy Makeover FAQ
How much does a Mommy Makeover cost in Los Angeles?
Mommy Makeover prices vary widely with the specific combination of procedures chosen. We provide our patients with a personalized price quote during the consultation and offer financing options to those who are interested. Because these procedures are complex and time-consuming, your safety and results depend on choosing a highly qualified and experienced board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Stoker.
What is the ideal weight to be for a Mommy Makeover?
Patients should be at or near their goal weight before having Mommy Makeover surgery. A BMI over 30 can be a safety risk. Weight loss after the procedure is likely to impact the results.
How long is bed rest after a Mommy Makeover?
There is no bed rest following Mommy Makeover surgery. It’s important to get up and walk around (slowly and carefully) starting the day of surgery. Patients typically start feeling more mobile and discontinue prescription pain medication after about a week; some take a week or so longer.
How long after a Mommy Makeover do you see results?
In general, the swelling has significantly diminished at around the 6-week mark, and patients can enjoy their renewed breast and body contours.
