Is BBL Included in a Mommy Makeover?

If enhancing the contour and appearance of the buttocks is a priority for you, your plastic surgeon should be able to include it in your Mommy Makeover surgical plan—as long as you’re a good candidate for the procedure.

When planning your Mommy Makeover, it can be helpful to focus less on what is “typical” of the procedure and more on what would give you the figure you want. Rather than asking, “Is BBL included in a Mommy Makeover?” I encourage my patients to reframe the question as “How does a BBL fit into my Mommy Makeover plan?”

How Does BBL Work?

A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a popular cosmetic procedure that enhances the shape and size of the buttocks using fat transfer. This procedure involves liposuction to remove surplus fat from one area of the body; the fat is then purified and injected into the buttocks.

I specialize in liposuction and achieve safe, consistent results with optimal fat viability. The survival rate of the transferred fat often comes down to skill and technique. My layered approach to BBL gives the fat greater access to blood supplies so that it can settle into its new position.

BBL is often celebrated for its dual benefits: slimming areas where excess fat is unwanted and enhancing the buttocks for a more rounded and lifted appearance. This procedure is popular with patients who have lost volume over time or who simply wish to augment a small or flat derrière.

BBL & Mommy Makeover Surgery

A Mommy Makeover usually focuses on the breasts and abdomen, but it isn’t limited to those areas. Some patients want to contour their thighs or rejuvenate their faces, while others want to balance their figures with BBL or more extensive liposuction.

Here’s what you should know when planning to incorporate BBL into your Mommy Makeover:

It’s Your Procedure

Each Mommy Makeover is tailored to fit the specific needs of the patient. If BBL is a high priority for you, and you’re a good candidate for the procedure, your surgeon should work with you to incorporate it into your surgical planning.

Additional Body Contouring

Since your Mommy Makeover will already need liposuction to collect fat for the BBL, you may want to consider whether other areas could benefit from targeted “spot reduction” treatments. If so, are there other areas that could use a boost with fat transfer?

Fat transfer adds softness to breast implants, restores volume to the cheeks and temples, and can even be used for vaginal rejuvenation.

Recovery Considerations

Following a BBL, you will have some activity and mobility restrictions to allow your buttocks adequate time to heal. In the grander scheme of a Mommy Makeover, you may need to decide whether operating simultaneously on the breasts or abdomen may add additional complexity to your healing.

In some cases, it’s better to stage your procedures to target one half of the body at a time. This shortens your overall procedure time (reducing complexity and risk) and can make the recovery process more manageable.
